What does my TANCET score mean?
- Top 5 percentile
- Strong call for Anna University main campus (CEG / MIT / ACT) MBA / MCA / M.E. - the most competitive TANCET-accepting programs.
- Top 20 percentile
- Good options across reputed TN state engineering colleges (PSG, Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Thiagarajar College, etc.) for M.E. and MBA programs.
- Top 50 percentile
- Calls from many TN-affiliated institutes; the centralised counselling allocates seats based on TANCET score + government / management quota distribution.
How does T.I.M.E. Coimbatore teach TANCET?
- Batch types
- Classroom • Weekend track • Online live • Test-series only
- Course duration
- 4-6 months for focused TANCET prep; concurrent with CAT for MBA candidates
- Mock series
- TANCET mock series (paper-specific) timed to the February-March exam window
TANCET MBA shares ~60% syllabus overlap with CAT. T.I.M.E. CAT-track students often take TANCET in parallel as a TN-specific backup. TANCET MCA and M.E. papers are more specialised and benefit from dedicated paper-specific prep. Fee structure: please enquire below.
Who should target TANCET specifically?
Tamil Nadu residents (or students with TN-domicile family) wanting affordable state-university postgraduate programs. TN state programs at Anna University and its affiliated colleges have meaningfully lower fees (Rs 25,000-75,000/year for state-quota seats) than private alternatives. Also useful for working professionals in Tamil Nadu who need a TN-based program for proximity reasons.
TANCET vs CAT for MBA?
Different target colleges. CAT gates IIMs + top national B-schools (typically Rs 12-25 lakh tuition for the program). TANCET gates Anna University + TN state college MBAs (Rs 1-3 lakh tuition total for the 2-year program). If your target is a Tier-1 national B-school: CAT. If you want a credible MBA at significantly lower cost while staying in TN: TANCET.
How does the centralised counselling work?
Anna University conducts post-result centralised counselling. Candidates fill choice lists (specific colleges + programs); seat allocation runs through multiple rounds based on TANCET rank + reservation policy + your choice priorities. State-quota seats are reserved for TN students at lower fees; management-quota seats are open to all-India candidates at higher fees.
TANCET - frequently asked questions
No - anyone can take the exam. However, the state-quota seat reservation favours TN-domicile candidates. Non-TN candidates qualify only for the smaller all-India quota and management-quota seats, which fill at higher fees.
Yes if you meet the eligibility for each (BBA / BCom / BSc / BA for MBA; BCA / BSc / BCom for MCA; B.E. / B.Tech for M.E.). The three papers are conducted on consecutive days; you can register for multiple.
Yes - post-result counselling on choice-list strategy (which colleges in which order to maximise seat allocation per your rank). Critical decision since the choice list locks once submitted.
Most TN state colleges using TANCET don't accept other exam scores as substitutes - TANCET is the primary entrance for that admission pool. Some private TN colleges accept CAT / MAT / XAT in addition to TANCET; verify per college.
Anna University CEG MBA placements average Rs 6-12 LPA with strong representation in TN-based corporates (TCS, Infosys, Wipro, regional banking, manufacturing). Fee-to-outcome ROI is excellent given the low program cost; absolute placement averages are lower than IIM / top private B-schools.
