What is the IPMAT exam format?

Duration: 2 hours total (single sitting, computer-based)

Scoring: +4 per correct; -1 negative marking on MCQ sections. SA section: no negative marking.

  30 questions - arithmetic, algebra, geometry, modern math.

• Quantitative Ability - Short Answer (SA)

  15 questions - no options, type-in-the-answer format, no negative marking.

What does my IPMAT score mean?

Top 200 (call for WAT/PI for IIM Indore)

Strong score (typically 95+ percentile range) puts you in the shortlist pool for the 5-year IPM at IIM Indore.

WAT/PI shortlist (~600-800 candidates)

Final admit depends on IPMAT + WAT + PI weighted; Class XII board scores have small weight too. Typical admit IPMAT percentile ~93-99.

Below 90 percentile

Limited IIM Indore IPM chances; consider IIM Rohtak IPMAT or NMIMS NPAT for alternative 5-year integrated programs.

Should I target IPMAT or wait for CAT after my bachelors?

Different pathways. IPMAT routes you to IIM Indore IPM at age 17-18 - 5 years to a BBA + MBA at one of India's premier B-schools, with strong placements at the end. CAT after bachelors gives you 2 years at IIM A/B/C/L etc. with potentially better placement averages but at age 22-25. IPMAT students often have a 4-year head-start on careers; CAT students have stronger work-experience optionality.

Is IPMAT very competitive?

Yes - ~50,000 applicants for 150 IIM Indore IPM seats annually. Effective acceptance rate is 0.3%. Class XII students typically need to score 90-99 percentile to be in the WAT/PI shortlist. The challenge is the very narrow band; small score differences translate to big shortlist differences.

What's the WAT and PI like?

WAT (Written Ability Test) is a 30-minute essay on a current affairs / general management topic. PI (Personal Interview) is ~15-20 minutes with a panel covering academic interests, current affairs, motivation for management, and behavioural questions. T.I.M.E.'s post-IPMAT WAT/PI prep includes mock interview rounds - important since Class XII students typically have less interview experience.
