> T.I.M.E. Coimbatore runs CLAT coaching as 12-18 month foundation tracks and 6-8 month accelerated tracks across classroom, weekend, and online live formats. The CLAT mock series - 20+ tests per cycle - calibrates against the all-India cohort. Past students have cracked NLSIU Bangalore and NALSAR Hyderabad.

CLAT is the gateway to the 22 National Law Universities \(NLUs\) - the top tier of law education in India. T.I.M.E. Coimbatore has been the city's leading CLAT coaching centre with structured prep across the 5 CLAT sections plus comprehensive mock series. This guide covers what T.I.M.E. Coimbatore's CLAT prep looks like, the exam structure, and the realistic percentile trajectory from a first mock to an NLU admission.

For the broader picture of T.I.M.E. Coimbatore's exam-prep offerings, see our [CLAT exam page](/exams/clat) and the [coaching hub](/coaching).

## What is CLAT and who takes it?

The Common Law Admission Test \(CLAT\) is conducted annually in early December by the Consortium of National Law Universities. The test admits to all 22 NLUs \(5-year integrated BA-LLB / BBA-LLB at the undergraduate level; LLM at the postgraduate level\). It's also accepted by many private law schools and corporate law universities for their integrated programs.

Around 70,000+ candidates sit UG-CLAT each year, competing for roughly 3,200 NLU UG seats and another 8,000+ seats across private law schools accepting CLAT. The top NLUs \(NLSIU Bangalore, NALSAR Hyderabad, NLU Delhi via AILET, WBNUJS Kolkata, NLU Jodhpur\) have intense competition - typical admission cutoff at NLSIU is 99+ percentile.

CLAT is open to candidates who have completed \(or are appearing in\) Class XII with 45%+ marks \(40% for reserved categories\). No specific subject prerequisites - students from science, commerce, and humanities streams all compete on equal footing.

## What does CLAT cover?

The UG-CLAT exam runs 120 minutes total - 150 multiple-choice questions across 5 sections \(no sectional timing; aspirants allocate time across sections\):

**English Language**

Reading comprehension passages \(4-5 passages, 28-32 questions\). Topics range from contemporary issues to literary excerpts. Heavy emphasis on inference, vocabulary in context, and tone identification.

**Current Affairs including General Knowledge**

35-39 questions on landmark events of last 6-12 months \(especially Supreme Court judgments, government schemes, international affairs, sports, awards\). Static GK component is minimal post-2020 reform - focus is on contemporary affairs.

**Legal Reasoning**

35-39 questions in principle-fact application format. Each question presents a legal principle followed by a factual situation; aspirants apply the principle to identify the correct outcome. Tests legal aptitude, not legal knowledge - no prior law study required.

**Logical Reasoning**

28-32 questions on short-passage based reasoning, arrangements, sequencing, syllogisms, and analytical reasoning. Different from CAT-style logical reasoning - CLAT favors passage-based reasoning over diagram-heavy puzzles.

**Quantitative Techniques**

13-17 questions on arithmetic, algebra, data interpretation, and basic geometry. Lighter than CAT QA - focus on speed and accuracy in basic calculation rather than deep mathematical concepts.

Scoring: each correct answer +1, incorrect -0.25 \(negative marking applies to all 5 sections\). Raw scores translate to percentile rankings; NLU admission is purely score-based via a centralised counseling process.

## How does T.I.M.E. Coimbatore's CLAT coaching work?

The CLAT prep structure runs across four batch types:

| Batch type | Schedule | Best for |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Classroom \(full-time\) | Weekday morning + weekend mocks | Class XII students, gap-year aspirants |
| Classroom \(weekend\) | Saturday + Sunday | Working students / those preparing alongside other studies |
| Online live | Evening + weekend, hybrid | Outstation / non-Coimbatore students |
| Test-series only | Self-paced + scheduled mocks | Strong self-preppers wanting calibration |

Duration tracks:

- **Foundation-to-CLAT \(12-18 months\)** - for Class XI students or fresh Class XII students. Builds skills across all 5 sections; covers concepts from ground up.
- **Accelerated track \(6-8 months\)** - for aspirants already in their final year of Class XII or those returning from a previous attempt. Focused on weak-section closure + mock practice.

**Current cycle at T.I.M.E. Coimbatore:**

| Item | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| Next batch start | 7 June 2026 |
| Active format this cycle | Weekend batch \(Saturday + Sunday\) |
| Session duration | 1.5 hours per session |
| Fee - 1-year track | INR 55,000 |
| Fee - 2-year track \(Class XI start\) | INR 1,00,000 |
| Mocks included | 100 full-length CLAT mocks + 35 mocks on other law entrances \(AILET, MH-CET, LSAT-India, etc.\) |
| WAT/PI prep for shortlisted candidates | Included at no additional cost |

Classroom, online-live, and test-series-only formats listed in the table above are part of T.I.M.E.'s national CLAT track but are not currently running as separate batches at Coimbatore - the weekend batch is the active local intake for the 2026 cycle.

## What's the mock series structure?

T.I.M.E.'s CLAT mock series is paced through the year - typically 20+ full-length CLAT mocks plus section-wise tests. The series density increases through September-November leading up to the actual CLAT exam.

What makes the mock series useful for serious CLAT aspirants:

**1. National percentile calibration.** Your mock percentile is computed against the all-India T.I.M.E. CLAT cohort - a competitive pool that approximates the actual CLAT-taking universe. A 95+ mock percentile consistently predicts 95+ on actual CLAT.

**2. Sectional + topic analysis.** Post-mock analytics break performance down by section, topic, time spent per question, and accuracy distribution. The patterns surface where you're losing time or accuracy.

**3. Difficulty calibration.** CLAT difficulty varies year-over-year; the mock series tracks the recent CLAT pattern \(post-2020 reform emphasis on reading comprehension across all sections\).

**4. Strategy iteration.** Mocks are the right place to test section-attempt-order strategies \(English first vs Current Affairs first\), time-per-question discipline, and exam-day stamina.

Most T.I.M.E. Coimbatore CLAT aspirants take 15-25 mocks in their final 4-6 months before CLAT, plus topic-specific tests in earlier prep stages.

## What's the realistic percentile trajectory?

Honest framing on what one year of structured prep delivers:

| Starting mock percentile | After 6 months structured prep | After 12 months structured prep |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 40-60 percentile | 75-85 percentile | 88-93 percentile |
| 60-75 percentile | 85-92 percentile | 93-97 percentile |
| 75-85 percentile | 92-96 percentile | 97-99 percentile |
| 85+ percentile | 96-99 percentile | 99+ percentile \(NLSIU range\) |

These are typical patterns at T.I.M.E. Coimbatore over multiple cycles, not guarantees. Reaching 99+ requires consistent practice + closing the weakest of the 5 sections - particularly Legal Reasoning, which separates competitive aspirants from elite scorers.

## What's the CLAT percentile → NLU admission map?

CLAT score directly determines NLU admission via the Consortium's centralised counselling. No separate GD/PI for NLUs - it's purely score-based.

Typical percentile thresholds:

| Score range | Typical NLUs accessible |
| --- | --- |
| 99+ percentile | NLSIU Bangalore, NALSAR Hyderabad, WBNUJS Kolkata, NLU Jodhpur - top 5 NLUs |
| 96-99 percentile | NLIU Bhopal, GNLU Gandhinagar, HNLU Raipur, RMLNLU Lucknow, RGNUL Patiala |
| 90-96 percentile | NLU Cuttack, NLU Vizag, MNLU Mumbai, NUJS, CNLU Patna, DSNLU |
| 85-90 percentile | Newer NLUs - TNNLU Trichy, MPNLUJ Jabalpur, HPNLU Shimla, NUSRL Ranchi |
| 80-85 percentile | NLU Tripura, NLU Sonepat, NLUJAA, NLUJ Assam |
| 70-80 percentile | Private law universities accepting CLAT \(Symbiosis, OP Jindal, etc.\) |

T.I.M.E. Coimbatore's CLAT cohort each year typically admits 5-15 students to NLUs, with consistent representation at top-5 NLUs over the past several cycles.

## How does CLAT compare to other law entrance exams?

| Exam | When | Schools | Difficulty |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| CLAT | Early December | 22 NLUs + 50+ accepting law schools | Highest |
| AILET | Early December \(separate test\) | NLU Delhi | Comparable to CLAT |
| SET \(Law\) | May | Symbiosis Law Schools | Easier than CLAT |
| OP Jindal LSAT | Year-round | OP Jindal | LSAT-style |
| MH-CET Law | March | Maharashtra state law colleges | State-level difficulty |
| CULEE | June | Christ University Bangalore | Easier than CLAT |

Most T.I.M.E. Coimbatore CLAT aspirants prep for CLAT primarily and add AILET \(NLU Delhi has its own separate exam\) in parallel. SET Law and OP Jindal LSAT are usually optional safety nets.

## Frequently asked questions

### When should I start preparing for CLAT?

Most aspirants who reach 95+ percentile have prepared for 12-18 months. If you're in Class XI, target the foundation track from June-July of Class XI for the next-December CLAT. The accelerated 6-8 month track works if you're starting in Class XII or returning from a previous attempt.

### Do I need a humanities background to crack CLAT?

No. CLAT is open to all streams. Students from science backgrounds tend to be stronger in Logical Reasoning and Quantitative; commerce students often have an edge on Current Affairs; humanities students naturally do well on English and Legal Reasoning. Overall percentile distribution is similar across backgrounds with prep. T.I.M.E. Coimbatore's NLU-admitted cohort includes students from all streams.

### How many mocks does T.I.M.E. provide?

Typically 20+ full-length CLAT mocks per cycle, plus section-wise and topic-specific tests. The series is paced so the heaviest density is September-November leading up to the exam. Mocks are included in classroom batch fees; the mock-only option is available separately for self-prep students.

### Can I prepare for CLAT alongside Class XII boards?

Yes - most T.I.M.E. Coimbatore CLAT aspirants are simultaneously preparing for Class XII boards. The weekend batch + evening batch options are designed specifically for this overlap. CLAT \(December\) typically comes 2-3 months before Class XII boards \(March\), allowing focused board prep in January-February.

### Does T.I.M.E. help with the post-CLAT counseling process?

Yes - T.I.M.E. provides counselling on NLU preferences, choice-filling strategy, and category-wise cutoff analysis. The counselling itself is conducted by the Consortium of NLUs; T.I.M.E.'s role is helping aspirants understand the order of preferences and historical cutoff trends.

### What's the difference between CLAT and AILET?

AILET \(All India Law Entrance Test\) is conducted separately by NLU Delhi \(the only NLU not part of the centralised CLAT\). AILET has its own paper pattern \(similar to CLAT but with some differences in section weightage and length\). Most aspirants take both - NLU Delhi via AILET admits ~110 UG students each year. Most T.I.M.E. Coimbatore aspirants prep for both in parallel.

### Can I get into a top NLU as a Coimbatore student?

Yes - geographic location doesn't affect NLU admission, which is purely score-based. T.I.M.E. Coimbatore students have cracked top NLUs \(NLSIU Bangalore is a frequent destination given geographic proximity, but Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Jodhpur are all viable\). Coimbatore's strong English-medium schooling actually advantages students for CLAT's heavy English-language emphasis.

### What's the career outcome from an NLU?

NLU graduates pursue diverse paths: top corporate law firms \(Cyril Amarchand, AZB Partners, Khaitan & Co, Trilegal - campus placements at top NLUs are competitive\), in-house counsel at corporates, litigation \(high court / Supreme Court chambers\), judicial services \(state and central judiciary\), policy roles, academia, and increasingly tech-law specialised firms. Top-NLU graduates command starting salaries of INR 15-22 lakh/year at corporate law firms; tier-2 NLU graduates typically start at INR 6-15 lakh/year depending on firm.
